Over the past four years we've seen a seismic shift in software development. The rise of low-code solutions, automated code generation via CLIs, and the exponential growth of AI have forced developers to rethink their approach.
This evolution has made me reflect on how I solve complex problems for clients. It's an ongoing question: I ask myself whether my current work is really future-proof. Should we always go for the standard solution, or strive for a perfect fit? And how much of our work can we actually automate with AI or CLI tooling?
These questions occupy me as I find my way in this rapidly changing technological landscape. Although I sometimes doubt my future added value in a world flooded by AI, my tentative conclusion is that continuous growth and exploring new technologies form the core of the value I bring to clients.
Understanding the full range of possibilities and finding the best solution is crucial to delivering value. It's not only about technical perfection but also about efficiency and timely delivery. The advances in AI promise a revolution: they will let us deliver solutions faster than ever and can even act as an additional developer on the team.
AI should also enable clients to solve problems in new, creative ways. Platforms such as make.com already offer a glimpse of those possibilities via innovative workflows that perform tasks that were previously far harder — or even impossible.
These ongoing developments have made me reflect on my role as a software architect and the future of my work. Despite the doubts, I keep believing that my value comes from continuous growth and knowledge of these new technologies. With AI as a partner we can find solutions faster and more creatively — and serve clients even better.
